International Red Light
Arkitex & Photograms
International Red Light consisted of a single sculpture accompanied by four black and white photographic prints. The exhibition’s title referenced both the International Style architecture central to the work and the general state of systemic blockage that coincided with the project’s inception and display.
The exhibition’s sculptural element consisted of a 1950s architectural kit model encased inside a semi-transparent red acrylic box. Lit from within and emitting a red glow the object alluded as much to a darkroom safelight as a warning or stop light. The accompanying photographic prints were photograms made directly from the architectural model. Each presented the model as negative, its skeletal form in stark relief to the black of the background. These prints rendered the essentially utopian form of the model as a shadow of itself.
International Red Light was exhibited at Knulp, Sydney. August 1 – 23 2020.
