Light That Returns
Light That Goes, Light That Returns
This short film was made in April 2020 for Window, an experimental film project instigated by the Artist Film Workshop in Melbourne. Shot on a single 100ft roll of 16mm film and accompanied by a shimmering soundtrack composed by John Encarnacao, Light That Returns was conceived as a quick response to lockdown 2020, (hopefully) a unique situation and moment in time. Light That Returns (alongside its companion film Light That Goes) was shown in the exhibition Perforations during October 2020 at Articulate Project Space, Sydney. From the exhibition room sheet:
Two films intended as a dialogue. One made in response to lockdown the other to what went before. Inspired by lines of poetry (by Paul Eluard) read by Natacha Von Braun (Anna Karina) in Godard’s Alphaville:
Your voice, your eyes, your hands, your lips
Our silences, our words
Light that goes, light that returns
