PHONOGRAPH RECORDS
CLOSER - 10" lathe cut record, edition of 30.
This 10 inch polycarbonate record was manufactured for the solo exhibition Closer held at Scott Donovan Gallery, Sydney, Australia from 7/9/05 to 1/10/05. The "ocean" side consists of field recordings made of the Pacific Ocean during April to July 2005 and was conceived of in relation to a series of photographs of the ocean shown in the exhibition. The "date" side of the record relates to a second series of images in the exhibition that catlogue a seemingly random selection of 7 inch records found in a shop in Invercargill New Zealand. These discs, formerly the property of a radio station, are pictured with an accompanying sheet that records by way of rubber stamp, the date that each was played. the sound on this side is composed from clicks and pops sampled from these records.

PROBLEM: APHIDS - 7" lathe cut record, edition of 30.

A 7 inch polycarbonate record made in 2000 as part of a work for the briefcase project, a portable exhibition space in a briefcase curated by Sydney atist Simon Barney. Each side of the record features a organ based composition that works a line between the fairground and the echo chamber via a dismembodied voice sampled from old language training records. The complete installation featured a battery powered record player to play the record and a inkjet print that accented the horticultural associations of the record's title. To view a mildly interactive flash piece (roll around and randomly click the flowers to trigger voice samples), made at the time and based on the record's sounds click here.
